The rumor about Wonder Woman's movie debut will make your head explode

Well. If this recently surfaced rumor is true, then Wonder Woman is about to get a verrrrry interesting new origin for Batman Vs. Superman. It's after the jump; try not to be drinking anything when you read them, because you're pretty much guaranteed a spit take.

Batman-on-Film.com — which, to be fair, has a pretty damned good track record when it comes to DC movies — claims the following in regards to Gal Gadot's role as WW in the move:

Personally, I'd say it'll be about on par with Scarlett Johansson's first appearance as Black Widow in IRON MAN 2. I believe that it's a cameo-plus type of role that will (hopefully) serve as a springboard to a solo Wonder Woman movie.

With all that said, I'd bet a year's pay – in MONOPOLY money, of course – that the "Amazons" of this cinematic DCU will be descendants of those "ancient Kryptonians" who attempted to set up Kryptonian outposts throughout spacedom thousands and thousands of years ago.

Wonder Woman. A Kryptonian. Actually, I guess all the Amazonians would be Kryptonians. I... I have no idea how to feel about this. I mean, I know this radically rewrites Wonder Woman's origin and basically shuts down all mythological aspects of the DC universe, and that sounds bad. On the other hand, it's not actually a bad explanation of Wonder Woman powers at all. But does that mean all the Amazonians will have Wonder Woman's powers?! Jett at BOF.com continues:

Furthermore, I say that Wonder Woman will be powered-down, if you will, relative to Superman because these Amazons have evolved and adapted to living on Earth for hundreds of centuries. And since Kryptonians are produced without any "He'n and She'n" – Jor El and Lara excluded – couldn't this original Kryptonian on Earth have used this reproductive science to create an all-female race? I say yes!

Huh. That's still a reasonably clever idea, actually. But is Wonder Woman is really going to be less powerful than Superman? That seems wrong, even more so than her Kryptonian origin. I almost wish she was like some kind of genetic throwback or something, and the rest of the Amazons were just... Amazons. If there's going to be an entire island of mini-Superwomen just hanging around somewhere, I don't know why they would sit out major threats to let Diana go it alone.

Actually, my biggest problem with turning WW's origin from myth to scifi is that it seems like we'd lose all the other mythological aspects of her character — the Greek gods, Ares, ancient monsters, all that good stuff. What will Gal Gadot do as Wonder Woman in her own movie without those guys? I'm worried that we're going to get two hours of WW chasing the Cheetah through a furry convention, but maybe the guys at WB/DC actually have an answer for this. It must have actually taken a bit of thought to have the ancient Kryptonian idea; maybe they'll have more ideas, assuming they aren't all tuckered out.
