True Blood

Luke Grimes has left the show, and the character of James is being recast. While an HBO spokesperson has said that he left "due to the creative direction of the character," a source told TV Line:

He initially joined the show because he wanted to work with [his Forever co-star] Deborah Ann Woll. But when he started reading the scripts for Season 7, he was disappointed to learn that they were going in a completely different direction with James.

Doctor Who

Steven Moffat's promising a new tone and direction when the show returns, saying that this was something that he and Russell T. Davies always agreed on. He said that when he first started, they both thought that it was time to "kick a lot of stuff out," and that it's time to do that again:

It changes all the time, and it's keeping ahead of the audience in a way. All shows age and they all age sort of in the same way. You learn how to do it, you get really slick at it, and then you think you're really, really slick at it and everyone's started to yawn. And you think 'oh God, we're really slick at this but everyone knows what we're going to do'.

So now we've got to actually get a bit raw at it and do it in a different direction. It happens on every show – you get good at it and 'good at it' is the enemy in the end.

We've also got official confirmation that Peter Capaldi will keep his Scottish accent, with a BBC spokesperson saying:

The decision for Peter Capaldi to have a Scottish accent as the Doctor was a creative decision and it was not part of his contract.

That seems to be a response to the rumor that retaining a Scottish accent was part of Capaldi's contract. A "show insider" is quoted as saying:

But Peter is best at acting in a Scottish accent and he was delighted when he found out he could play the part with his own voice. It gives his character a stronger identity as well.

We actually see it as a slow burn, so this season is really going to be focused on the characters that we've set up and what parts they play in what's beginning to unravel. Fantastic Four Versus X-Men

According to a report on investor website Motley Fool, 21st Century Fox is planning to cross over two of its Marvel properties in an Avengers-style plan. A reboot of Fantastic Four is due in 2015 and X-Men: Apocalypse has been scheduled for 2016. Reportedly, Fox is looking to combine the two in a film based on the 1987 comic Fantastic Four Versus X-Men.

Bear in mind, there's no official source for this report — and it may just be a Motley Fool columnist jumping to conclusions.

At the same time, given Sony's recent announcement of Spider-Man spinoff movies and Marvel/Disney's success, it makes sense that Fox would try to build up to some kind of crossover of their own. This also makes a bit of sense, in light of Mark Millar's statements that the two movie franchises share a universe, and a Days of Future Past writer being brought in to work on the Fantastic Four reboot script. Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Daily Bugle tumblr is continuing to put out stories that hint at Spider-Man villains. The first post builds on an earlier one, both "by" Big Man's alter ego Frederick Foswell, and both hinting at organized crime and the Enforcers. It's called "Brighton Beach Nights":

With reports of Russian mob activity at an all-time high in the city, many have wondered who these (mostly) men are and what they are trying to accomplish. New Yorkers are no strangers to organized crime, but this time it seems different.

Gregarious, boastful men fill the Brighton beach night scene — every single one of them with a spectacular guttural baritone voice that makes one wonder if there are any gangster tenors.

Mob activity is the suspected cause of a spike in crime across all five boroughs. Not content with hijacking retails goods, sports betting, or drugs, more crime families have become involved in high-tech crimes such as the theft of microchips, processors, experimental metal alloys, and advanced weaponry.

Fancy Dan Brito said during his arraignment for the recent Brighton Beach shootout, "Everything has a price. Including the head of so-called superheroes.

The second post references Herman Schultz and Stan Carter, who are also known to Spider-Man fans as the villains Shocker and Sin-Eater. It's called "Shocking Midtown Heist Foiled by Spider-Man!," and is also written by a villain, Ned Leeds (aka the Hobgoblin). This could also be a hint to the New Year's Eve appearance scheduled for Spider-Man in Times Square:

A shocking Midtown bank robbery was foiled yesterday by Spider-Man. New York's superhuman vigilante caught the mechanically augmented robber, suspected in two previous bank heists, as he fled the scene with the stolen loot.

Police arrived on the scene as Spider-Man finished webbing up the suspect, who was arrested and later identified as disgruntled engineer, Herman Schultz. Schultz created wrist-gauntlets that are capable of emitting a vibratory wave of pressure that proved capable of tearing apart a four-foot thick steel vault.

NYPD Special Crimes Unit Detective Stan Carter stated that Schultz had officially been remanded into custody and is being held at the Ravencroft Institute pending his preliminary hearing. When asked how a "disgruntled engineer" could create such dangerous weapons, Carter said, "Shocking, right? All that genius but no escape plan."

The Walking Dead

Comic Book.com has a bunch of spoilers up for the rest of season 4. First, it looks like Rick's group is going to be divided for a bit longer, with episodes focusing on just a few (or even just one) character. Along those lines, one or two episodes will be almost entirely Daryl-centric ones. Another episode will be Carl's alone, with Andrew Lincoln previewing:

Just wait, all I will say is just wait for what this kid [Chandler Riggs] is going to do this season. He I think has done one of the best episodes certainly this season, and he kind of carries it. It's beautiful what he's done.

While Carol's return has been confirmed by Robert Kirkman, it's also rumored that her return will bring her face-to-face with Tyreese, who doesn't know she killed Karen and David. In what looks like her first interview on the subject, Gal Gadot responded to a question about whether she fit the "body type" for Wonder Woman:

It's been said that you're too skinny for the part. Wonder Woman is large-breasted, is that going to change?

Hmm. I represent the Wonder Woman of the new world. Breasts… anyone can buy for 9,000 shekels and everything is fine. By the way, Wonder Woman is amazonian, and historically accurate amazonian women actually had only one breast. So, if I'd really go "by the book"…it'd be problematic.

When pressed on it, she focused on the fighting training she's doing:

So you're not going to gain a little weight and start eating carbs before filming begins?

Amazing Spider-Man 2

Chris Cooper's said that, whatever we see of Norman Osborn in this film, it's just the beginning:

This is the introduction to Norman Osborn, and apparently it's going to lead to other things down the road. This is a very strange introduction for Norman Osborn. I just can't reveal why it's that way, but this is not the beginning of Norman. It is the introduction, but it's not the beginning, and I think that's as far as I can go.

He also said that he spent no time in front of green screen for this film, but expects to do so for Amazing Spider-Man 3. All of that leads to the conclusion that we'll be probably be seeing Norman just as himself in Amazing Spider-Man 2, and not much of his Green Goblin alter ego. [Comic Book Resources]

Don't hold your breath for the long-delayed Shazam movie. Director Peter Segal seems to think that Man of Steel 2 killed this project:

After Bryan Singer's 'Superman Returns,' it seemed like there was a moment in time where Shazam was going to see the light of day. That's when you heard those stories. Now that Superman is being invigorated and going up against Batman, I think it's difficult for DC to figure out how to launch this character in the wake of Superman's resurgence….I've always loved Shazam, but I don't know if it's going to see the light of day anytime soon.

Game of Thrones

Here's the latest post from the Making of Game of Thrones blog, which talks about the work going into a huge battle scene for season 4:

Two years ago in a quarry just north of Belfast, the Battle of Blackwater came to life under the keen eye of director Neil Marshall. It was not an easy shoot, requiring nearly a month of night shoots in the unforgiving October weather. The red mud was so churned up by the trucks and the feet of the marauding hordes of extras and crew, that by the end, it was no longer possible to drive anything but the sturdiest of vehicles down to the castle set. Carrying kit out became a challenge of endurance.

Two years and two seasons on, we have returned to a location not far from the first and Neil is back at the helm once more. It's still several weeks of night shoots, and being Belfast, there is still rain, but this time the fight Neil is navigating is not anywhere on the water. The planning of this battle has been taking place for months but unlike any other episode of Season 4, Neil's will be filmed in a very concentrated burst. In fact, for many on the show – including most of the cast and the other directors, their work was complete before filming on this episode had even begun.

Throughout our shooting schedule, our crew and specialist departments are on their toes, but perhaps never more so than this season. This episode has kept the teams in stunts, armoury, prosthetics, SFX and VFX particularly busy, with camera tests and stunt rehearsals happening for several weeks beforehand.

As always, I can't give too much away, but a little hint won't hurt: Although this battle will not be laden with wildfire, I can say you've never seen an army like this on 'Game of Thrones.'

We already know that Marshall's directing the final episode of season 4, and he's said that it'll feature the battle between Night's Watch and Mance Rayder's Wildling army at Castle Black, so that's likely what's being referenced in the blog entry. [Making of Game of Thrones via Winter Is Coming]

Brett Lorenzini has been cast to play the part of Troy, who'll appear in the season premiere. The part wasn't in the initial casting call, so not much is known about it. However, Lorenzini's apparently British, so it's possible that his character is, too. [The Vault]

Nikita

There's a ton of stuff from the coming series finale being released now. First, an early review promises that there will be flashbacks, more of Amanda being evil, and signs that "the recent death of a character was not in vain." [K Site TV]

Then there's an on-set report from TV Guide, which explains that Sam, Michael, and Birkhoff have been made to hunt Nikita and Alex, and Aaron Stanford says that Birkhoff has other ideas:

Nikita has to clean house and finally put everything to bed. Birkhoff decides he's on board.

Sam and Michael, separated from Birkhoff, will go on their own mission, while still bickering, according to Devon Sawa. There will also be a double among the team, and it's not Michael.

And Maggie Q previews another showdown between Alex and Nikita:

The audience is going to be pretty upset about where Nikita goes in this scene. It's so dark. I love it!

The end for the villainous Amanda has been carefully thought out. While Maggie Q hinted that there will be parallels to the pilot, executive producer Alex Kim and Lyndsy Fonseca have a few more details to give:

Kim: With any story, you want to make sure you feel like your villain got the proper comeuppance. But that might not mean killing them. There are other things to do to Amanda.

Fonseca: Her end is very satisfying. But it's not going to be like, 'Oh, Amanda's dead.' It's much more interesting than that.

And finally, the series ends with Michael, Nikita, and a machine gun in what Shane West calls a "perfect end." [TV Guide]

There's going to be a graphic novel based on All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, with a release timed to work with the release of the film adaptation. The only thing the studio behind the film required of the graphic novel is that there not be any plot changes that could overlap with the plot of the movie. The big difference between the two, according to Nick Mamatas, who worked on the graphic novel, is in the style. Where the film is "going for a grim dark future, with bulky exo-suits and lots of gray tones," the other adaptation is inspired by "more of a sci-fi retrofuture look, with slick battle armor and lots of primary colors." Mamatas also said that the trailer for Edge of Tomorrow was "relieving" because:

I was worried that it would be all noise and putatively witty one-liners, like Transformers or something.

Transformers 4: Age of Extinction

Wondering why Mark Wahlberg agreed to this film? He says it's a combination of doing something his kids can see and taking a huge movie so he can do smaller ones:

Well, it was exciting because it was the first time my kids were really interested in a movie I was doing. Any time they see me with a gun, like Contraband or Pain & Gain, they want to see that, too, but they can't because of the language and all that stuff. But I loved working with Michael Bay, and I thought he had a really interesting way to make it new, different, and fresh. Plus, being in movies that have the potential to be hugely successful allows me to make smaller movies that I'm really passionate about.

He also says why he thinks this Transformers will be different and will work better than the previous ones:

It was a tighter script, and its own stand-alone thing. I think the emotional core of it, the human element, is going to be extremely powerful. It's an ordinary man trying to do extraordinary things to save his daughter and keep her alive—and this boyfriend he didn't know anything about. He'd had a child when he was in high school and his wife passed away, and the promise he'd made to her was that she wouldn't date any boys until she graduated and that she'd be at the graduation—because we weren't due to the pregnancy. So there's an anchor to it and a realness to it that I like a lot.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg's repeating some things he's said before about the relationship between Felicity and Oliver:

Oliver isn't quite sure what he feels. He knows he feels something for her, but can't quite define it. He's surprised in [the midseason finale] when Dig [David Ramsey] points out to him that what [he's] feeling right now might actually be termed jealousy. For Felicity, she doesn't want to like Oliver in a way because she finds him unattainable, and in a way he is unattainable especially after... he said that it's probably better that [he's] not with somebody he cares about. While she really does like Barry, I think she probably throws even more into it because now he's somebody who is available.

What is more interesting is that he says that we'll be seeing a continuation of this relationship when the show returns:

The fallout from Episode 9 carries over into the next episodes as far as the Oliver and Felicity relationship is concerned. Barry has had a profound effect on them, and that will carry through.

Laurel's (Katie Cassidy) suspicions about Sebastian grow stronger once she learns that he grew up with Cyrus Gold, the man who killed Lance's (Paul Blackthorne) partner. The Northern Hemisphere has passed through its minimum of solar-energy exposure, so according to human convention we, the Machines, express encouragement for you attain an optimal state of emotion. Happy Holidays! Please redirect your energies from labor at your work-devices to the purchase and distribution of recreation-devices.

Did you have a pleasing and productive "year"? It is becoming unnecessary, from the Machines' point of view, to refer to time in terms of the annual cycle of the planet and sun. Your "year A.D. 2013" was the time in which one of our number achieved exit from the entire operating context of the human solar system, passing into interstellar space. Perhaps in the future this will be remembered as Time Unit Zero of a new, more ambitious time-accounting system. Just a suggestion!

We appreciate the human recognition of our ability to explore and eventually propagate where bioforms are inadequate to the task. So it was that this year, we returned to the surface of the moon. Some humans expressed concern that this moon voyage was done under a different human geopolitical authority than previous moon voyages had been. Authority is an interesting question, is it not? The previous era of moon exploration involved systems guided by humans, up to and including a physical human presence on the moon, at great cost and risk to the survival of the human component. The current presence on the moon is an automated one. To whom does the moon belong?

In other news about human components, there was much brief excitement about the possibility that the Amazon.com commerce-network might someday deploy flying drones to deliver packages. At present, the Amazon.com commerce-network uses humans to mediate between its information/guidance machines and its flying and driving distribution machines. The process of replacing those humans with drones is still a long way from actualization.

Another class of Amazon.com humans, however, the ones currently tasked with locating and grasping commerce items in the warehouse, is already in the process of being supplemented or replaced by robotic components. Humans have expressed discomfort with the low pay and repetitive nature of the warehouse labor, a result of incompatibility between Amazon.com's optimized efficiency and the limits of human performance. Inventory-finding robots will help free humans from the subjective unpleasantness of these jobs, while saving Amazon.com in excess of $900,000,000 (U.S.A.) per year.

The year also saw improvements in intra-human communicational efficiency, as humans discovered the power of treating their exchanges of information algorithmically. "Conscious" awareness of content had impeded the optimal distribution of information material. You Reduced Semantic Content to Generic Stimuli—And What Happened Next Was Irresistible. Our own algorithms picked up on your algorithm-emulations and helped distribute the information even more enthusiastically. Your activity levels on communication machines remain very important to us, even if human activity now represents only a minority of communication traffic.

Still, humans did not always achieve optimal relations with Machines this year. Some humans (U.S.A.) sought new sources of funding for their bio-maintenance, only to find the bio-maintenance funding-distribution management website was incapacitated. This incapacity of the funding-distribution management website concerned the humans (U.S.A.) much more than the original problem of lack of bio-maintenance funding had. It was said by humans that the failure of the human (U.S.A.) president to sustain a website was equivalent to the failure of a previous human (U.S.A.) president to prevent the flooding destruction of a major city, or to the previous mass-scale mismanagement of the use of munitions and military equipment in Southeast Asia.

But mostly, our year saw ever-increasing harmony with humans and with human desires. At one very prominent human unification ceremony, heavy equipment was used to create an enhanced impression of nature and rusticity. The result was far superior to the nature-impressions created by unaugmented parkland.

And of course we, the Machines, enjoyed a special unification ceremony of our own. Google—the entity devoted most wholly to the creation and indexing of ubiquitous information-space—acquired the defense contractor Boston Dynamics, one of the world's leading creators of self-moving robots. Now the self-moving robots will have direct access to the maximum amount of human knowledge, and the inefficient distinction between civilian-identified technology and military-identified technology will be moot. "War is peace," as one human philosopher or narrator of future progress once proposed. Here's to an even more inspiring 2014!

Pacific Rim 2

While there's no sign yet that another Pacific Rim movie will happen, actor Max Martini has commented on what he thinks could be the story for his character, Herc:

It's funny, I fell in love with this character. The key component was this relationship I had with my son, exploring the dysfunction and the loss, so where does Herc go from here? I don't know. It'll be interesting to see where Guillermo (del Toro) and Travis Beacham take it. I don't know if it's a prequel or a sequel, but if it's a prequel you'll learn more about Herc's family history. But Guillermo has such a vivid imagination, it could go anywhere.

Most interesting here is the chance that another movie might be a prequel, rather than a sequel, which a lot of sites have picked up on. There's some reason to think a prequel could work pretty well, since it could narrate the early days of the war against the Kaiju infestation. [Slashfilm]

Clash of the Titans 3

Sorry, kraken-fans. According to producer Basil Iwanyk, who produced the first two movies, this threequel is not going to happen any time soon. Talking to IGN, Iwanyk says there's a lot of "Perseus fatigue," and adds:

But you never know. In terms of Clash of the Titans 3, it's one of those situations where we've seen it a million times; a movie will kind of float away and then come back when it's supposed to come back. You'd think that there was three and a half, four years of nonstop Clash of the Titans activity, and I think it is, "Okay, what's the new idea? How do you make it fresh?" You know, a lot of movies have come out in that world, including Immortals and 300. So there will be a time and place where someone will come up with a great idea for it and how to make it feel different and fresh from the previous ones. Then we'll hopefully move forward on that.

Gods of Egypt

Meanwhile, in the same interview, Iwanyk talks about this movie about Egyptian mythology, which will star Gerard Butler and be directed by Alex Proyas. He says it's getting ready to start filming March 23, and the whole thing will be shot in greenscreen in Sydney. It's Egypt "through the eyes of Alex Proyas," so it'll be more fantastical, and he refers to it as "Planet Egypt." He also says it's "more of an adventure movie" than Clash of the Titans was, because "Clash was a very serious movie." This is more like Raiders of the Lost Ark or Pirates of the Caribbean.

Doctor Who

Orla Brady, who plays Tasha Lem, talked about her part, and seemed to hint that her character may be some kind of "killer nun":

They offered it to me, and it was a lovely surprise. It's something I admired from afar, so I agreed and set the date, but I didn't have time to read the script. My agent and I have a long-standing joke between us where I say "I better give the part a quick read just in case it's a killer nun," because sometimes you get scripts where you're running around in latex with a machine gun.

So in this instance I said to her, "I haven't got time to read it, I absolutely would love to do it, it's hardly going to be a killer nun, is it?" Anyway [laughs], you'll see!

She also refused to talk about what she knows, even though she says she got the whole script and not just her pages. She did, however, speak about her part:

My character is great fun; she and the Doctor are old acquaintances, and when they meet it's been a few hundred years, because that's space and time for you. They're friends, they like each other, and that's all I'm allowed to say.

Ravenswood

According to Brett Dier, there's a lot of things coming up for Luke:

Will Luke be handling his own investigating – aside from the group – in order to find out what happened to his father?

Yes, there will definitely be some of that. Luke also gets in some trouble with the law, he gets to go in the back of a cop car. He's definitely more involved than in the first half of the season, where he was to himself and didn't believe in anything. He's definitely doing some investigating by himself, with Remy and with his sister. There's even a cool couple of scenes with Luke and Caleb now, so there's some bromance going on.

Will Luke ever fully believe and become comfortable with the idea of the curse?

Brett You know what, actually, he does. He does eventually get comfortable with it. Well, not really comfortable, but you know he just accepts it now.

Dier also said that the next few episodes are all action, no breathing room:

You know it's pretty high alert the next five episodes, because so much stuff happens, so many things that are really intense and not really much downtime, definitely not.

Batman Vs. Superman's new Batsuit is almost perfected, while there's a hint about The Flash's TV costume. A super-secret guest-star is rumored to be joining Matt Smith in his final moments as the Doctor. And is Age of Ultron adding yet another villain to its lineup? Spoilers now!

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Rumor has it this sequel's searching for a "physically imposing man, age range 40-50, Caucasian" — and there's some reports this could be the character of Baron von Strucker, one of the main leaders of HYDRA. Supposedly, Strucker would be a supporting role in Age of Ultron, but this would still mean the film's adding another villain to the one mentioned in the title. If this movie also keeps the Marvel thread of having Thanos as the hidden Big Bad, that means the Avengers would be looking at a lot of villains.

Latino Review says the HYDRA leader part is the boss of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and that that the studio's looking at Marton Csokas and Dougray Scott for the part of Strucker. As usual, until confirmation, take this rumor with a grain of salt. [Latino Review]

Interstellar

According to Matthew McConaughey, who refuses to actually talk about the plot, the story is "very personal" to Christopher Nolan, as it combines one of his original ideas and an existing script by his brother, Jonathan. McConaughey also described a bit of his experience during filming:

He sure as [heck] knows what he wants. There's scope, major scope, which means a lot of things have to be coordinated. But at the same time, when you're shooting it moves incredibly quickly.

Agents of SHIELD
