NPR is currently running a great radio piece on posthumanism featuring Neil Harbisson, an artist (and the world's first government-recognized cyborg) who was born color-blind but now "sees" color with an extrasensory device he wears on his head. You can listen to the NPR piece here, but Harbisson's TED Talk, above, serves as a good introduction.

A map of the most hated popular music in every state

Last week, we checked out this map of the music that's popular in your state (and only in your state), but, now that we know what music your state likes, what music does it hate? This map answers that question.

The map is the work of Paul Lamere (who is responsible for creating the first map) and Randal Cooper. It uses data from The Echo Nest (a streaming service that powers services like Spotify, Pandora, and others) to compare the most popular music nationwide with their performance just inside statelines. "R. Kelly is ranked the 42nd most popular artist in the U.S.," Lamere explains on his blog, "but in New Hampshire he's the 720th most popular, a drop of 678 positions on the chart making him the most ignored artist in New Hampshire."

So, does the map fit with the music you hear (or don't hear) in your homestate? Tag the map and tell us what's going on in your locale.

Right?? This looks GREAT. Alejandro Jodorowsky's unbridled enthusiasm for the project doesn't seem to have waned in the thirty years since he began assembling what might be the greatest story never told on the silver screen (assuming you didn't check out

David Lynch's adaptation from 1984).

Two solid years were spent plotting this

unrealized masterpiece, which appears to have become as much a spiritual journey as a cinematic one—and one that would have suited Jodorowsky's cult-culture sensibilities pretty much perfectly. Check out the bizarro star-studded cast he was angling for: Orson Welles, Mick Jagger, David Carradine, and Salvador Dali—featuring music by Pink Floyd, natch.

Swiss surrealist

H.R. Giger produced much of the concept art in what was his first film experience. He went on to do designs for genre films and, perhaps most notably, the Alien series (NBD, this guy was the creative mind behind the alien).

Concept artist

Chris Foss also brought his unmatched knack for sci-fi worlds to the endeavor. (Unrelated, but I didn't know he has a sensitive touch for humanoids as well. In addition to his space ships and floating cities, he drew the au-naturale, hair-everywhere art for the ultimate 1970s-style pleasure guide, The Joy of Sex; this is a pretty great article about how those visuals all came together.)

After watching the trailer, I was reminded of

Lost in La Mancha, the on-set account of Terry Gilliam's impossible dream to make a movie about Don Quixote (now streaming on Netflix—watch it!!); an analogous attempt by a similarly zealous visionary. Jodorowsky's Dune will be out in theaters later this month. In the meantime, here's a taste of what's to come.

Inceptor is a board game based off Chris Nolan's Inception, which means it's gorgeous but also complicated. Very complicated. So extremely complicated, in fact, that sometimes doesn't make any sense. But that's okay, we're in.

This Inception board game takes place in the dream world S

According to the board game's Kickstarter page:

Inceptor is a board game that takes place in the dream world. The board represents the inside of a dreamer's mind, who is known as the Mark. Each player is trying to plant an idea in the Mark's dream, hoping that when he wakes, he will carry out their chosen task. The key is to make your task seem achievable to the Mark and to make sure he believes it was his own idea from its inception. In order to do this the dream needs to be so real, that when the Mark wakes up, the planted idea sticks and he performs the mission without a second thought.

Each player has a "totem" which is their playing piece, obviously. They each receive a mission or idea that they must incept into "Mark's" mind. And then it goes on. The harder the idea to incept, the more cards and tasks you need to acquire. It's complicated (as it should be) but also awesome and quite gorgeous so go support it!

Wait, why are we naming winter storms now? onlinecollegedegreee.blogspot.com

onlinecollegedegreee.blogspot.com Wait, why are we naming winter storms now?

Wait, why are we naming winter storms now? S

Winter storms weren't named at all until two years ago. So why did we start all of a sudden?

Naming Hurricanes and tropical storms has a long history, but names for winter storms only built up steam in the last couple years. And, unlike tropical storms or hurricanes, it's not the National Weather Services that is naming them, it's The Weather Channel.

NPR took a look at the research of University of Chicago psychologist Nicholas Epley, who says that the reason we're naming winter storms is the same as the reason we might nickname a car or a computer — it behaves as though it has a mind of its own. "When something behaves unexpectedly, it's not obvious why this person or that thing behaved as it did, that's when a mind is needed," Epley said. And winter storms do seem to be behaving in increasingly unexpected — and dangerous — ways.

But even though the impacts of winter storms seem to be getting increasingly severe, winter storms and tropical storms work in very different ways, and what makes sense for one kind of storm (naming), may not make sense for another. The NWS says that due to the nature of winter storms, which are not as clearly bounded and do not have as easily predicted paths as tropical storms, they prefer to rate the strength of winter storms after the fact, instead of giving them names.

So, should winter storms be named? And, if they are, who should be responsible for it?

Missouri bill would have parents alerted when evolution is taught S

In what may be the first of its kind, a proposed bill in Missouri would require that parents be notified when evolution is being taught to their children at school. They could then pull them from the class. Critics say the bill would "eviscerate" the teaching of biology.

The bill is being sponsored by State Rep. Rick Brattin (R), and it had its first public hearing on February 13th, 2014. Though many anti-evolution proposals are currently being considered across the United States, this one appears to be the only bill — and perhaps the first — that actually mandates parental notification when evolution is being taught to their children. The language of the bill reads like this:

Any school district or charter school which provides instruction relating to the theory of evolution by natural selection shall be required to have a policy on parental notification and a mechanism where a parent can choose to remove the student from any part of the district's or school's instruction on evolution. The policy shall require the school district or charter school to notify the parent or legal guardian of each student enrolled in the district of:

(1) The basic content of the district's or school's evolution instruction to be provided to the student; and

(2) The parent's right to remove the student from any part of the district's or school's evolution instruction.

Speaking to a local TV station two weeks ago, Brattin said, "Our schools basically mandate that we teach one side. It is an indoctrination because it is not objective approach."

So apparently teaching NSTA-approved curriculum is indoctrination. Riiiiight.

Talking Points Memo reports:

Glenn Branch, deputy director of the National Center for Science Education, told TPM that he was not aware of any state legislation that had included a provision that parents be notified if evolution was being taught at their local schools.

"It's an absolute infringement on people's beliefs," Brattin told the Kansas City Star of requiring schools to teach evolution. "What's being taught is just as much faith and, you know, just as much pulled out of the air as, say, any religion."

Unsurprisingly, the proposal has drawn criticism from those science teacher organizations.

The bill "would eviscerate the teaching of biology in Missouri," Branch said in a statement. "Evolution inextricably pervades the biological sciences; it therefore pervades, or at any rate ought to pervade, biology education at the K–12 level. There simply is no alternative to learning about it; there is no substitute activity."

"The value of a high school education in Missouri would be degraded," Branch said.

Trevor Slattery (played by Ben Kinsgley) is still one of the best creations from the Marvel movies. And the latest new clip from this upcoming Mandarin short film makes our heart yearn for more Trevor! He's just so good.

The new short "All Hail The King" shows what life is like behind bars for The Mandarin. It's just so delightful to have this character back (really in any form) and we beg Marvel please, please, please consider giving this character a revival in Phase 3 or something. Just don't lock this gem away forever. Ultron Vs. Trevor!

"All Hail the King" is the next Marvel one-shot, included on the DVD/Blu-ray release of Thor: The Dark World.

Why speed cameras don't work as well as we think they do onlinecollegedegreee.blogspot.com

onlinecollegedegreee.blogspot.com Why speed cameras don't work as well as we think they do

Why speed cameras don't work as well as we think they do

Speed cameras have been put in at various intersections across the globe. Depending on who you ask, they were put in to bring in money or to reduce accidents. But here's one reason why they don't reduce accidents as much as we think they do.

In the past we've talked about how extraordinary results cause people to believe that their "luck" is going one way or another. There is The Gambler's Fallacy, which causes people to think that, if a coin has landed on one side an unusual number of times it is "due" to land on the other side on the next flip. Conversely, there's the hot hand's fallacy, which causes people to think that a person who has shot dice successfully a few times is on a hot streak and will keep shooting well. In fact, both hot streaks and cold streaks are part of the normal course of events. A coin flipped many times will have long streaks of heads or tails. A die thrown enough times will come up lucky for long streaks in a row.

In the more superstitious days of gambling, casinos would literally have "coolers." They are incarnations of good luck, who will sit near a lucky gambler and cool their hot streak. Some people say that professional coolers are just an urban legend, but there are a few gamblers who believe in amateur coolers. A person sits next to them at a table, and their luck turns. What's really happening is regression to the mean. Every hot streak is a slight blip caused by chance, a temporary break away from regular casino results. Keep flipping that coin long enough and no matter how many heads you once got in a row, you'll get an even distribution between heads and tails. Keep playing roulette long enough and no matter how much you win in the first hour, you'll lose in the long run because the odds are in the casino's favor.

What does this have to do with speed cameras? For the most part, they're placed at intersections that are "hot" and have an unusually high number of accidents. Some of those intersections are legitimately more dangerous and need the cameras, but even if all the intersections in every city were equally dangerous, some would have a strangely high number of accidents in a year. The next year it would most likely regress to the average number of accidents per year, even if nothing were done, for the same reason that a streak of red in roulette will eventually turn black. Because both the dangerous intersection and the non-dangerous intersection will most likely have a reduction in the accident rate the year after the speed camera is put in, it would take a careful analysis to distinguish which reduction was due to extra caution on the part of thrifty drivers, and which was just the result of chance.

In fact, this problem is the same for all safety measures. An unusually high number of deaths or accidents will cause people to demand something be done. Safety measures — walls, speed limits, laws, overseeing agencies — are put in, and the problem is reduced. But was there a real problem, or was there simply the occasional chance increase in numbers we'd expect to see in everything from average rainfall to lotto winners? And did the safety measure really help, or did things just go back to what we think of as normal?

Batman's never been particularly lucky in love, so normally he doesn't even mess with it. But when he does, like in these amazing 1966 valentines that Mark Anderson dug up, it reveals that the world of Bat-romance is a very strange place. Suffice it to say, Batman screaming "VA-ROOOM!" is the least creepy of the lot.

Okay, Riddler, maybe I'll grant you #2, but what the hell is #1 about? Are you suggesting that true love can be destroyed if you punch your romantic partner in the face? I mean, that makes sense, but it's a hell of a valentine message. And what army has ever been stopped by true love? Do you mean prostitutes? I think you mean prostitutes.

The Walking Dead's Carl is so bad at the zombie apocalypse, you guys onlinecollegedegreee.blogspot.com

onlinecollegedegreee.blogspot.com The Walking Dead's Carl is so bad at the zombie apocalypse, you guys

The Walking Dead's Carl is so bad at the zombie apocalypse, you guys S

Carl-haters got a special treat tonight, as the sheriff-hat-wearing lad managed to be awful to and at pretty much everything — he's shitty to Rick and shitty at dealing with zombies. But his general ineptitude is the highlight of The Walking Dead's mid-season four premiere, a quiet episode that didn't offer much else.

First, a caveat. In my recap of The Walking Dead's mid-season finale last year, I may have gushed (I totally gushed) about the action-packed, high stakes, immensely jaw-dropping finale, calling it the greatest achievement of the human race. I now realize I was a bit overexcited at finally seeing The Walking Dead reach its full potential, and give us what was easily the best episode since the premiere, and surpassing it in a great many ways. Did it make TWD great? No, but it was excellent and gave me a great deal of hope for the show's future.

I feel like AMC's habit of splitting up seasons did not do last night's episode, "After," any good; it was a quiet episode, focused only on Rick and Carl and Michonne, with lots of silence, a few character moments, but mostly the basics of survival that Rick et al. had hoped they'd left behind when they moved into the prison. Had it aired the week after "Too Far Gone," it would have been far more palatable; three months later, it just seems slow.

Rick and Carl flee the prison. Rick is fucked up — and this isn't me and my regular penchant for profanity, I'm pretty sure his condition is medically known as "fucked up." He can barely walk or breathe. Carl, meanwhile, is angry. He's angry at the loss of Judith, he's angry at the loss of Herschel and everyone else, he's angry at the loss of his life at the prison, he's angry because his life is terrible, and because he has no one else to focus this anger on, he takes it out on his dad.

Rick handles this anger by basically passing out for two days once they find a home they can break into. It's a good call, because he doesn't have to see Carl get into two preposterously dangerous zombie situations, both thanks to his stupidity and panic under pressure: the first time he decides to lure two zombies away from their house and immediately backs into another one; the second is a zombie bursting from a door he opened that he was ostensibly expecting a zombie to pop out of. He barely avoids getting bitten both times.

Being unconscious, Rick also doesn't have to hear Carl berate him for failing to protect everyone, for failing to take care of the Governor earlier, for bothering to farm when he should have prepared for war. He even yells "I'd be fine if you died." It's the most normal thing in the world for a hormonal teenage boy with any kind of problem to blame his parents, and what Carl has endured has earned him all the temper tantrums in the world. However, his petulance makes him seem far more childish than his years, as does his massive, repeated incompetence in this episode. He's got plenty to be legitimately upset about, but he could also be a little realistic about his situation and his skills, and this episode could have featured this conflict without it being so shallow or Carl being so horrible.

The cherry on Carl's delightful sundae of wretchedness is when Rick finally wakes up and does his best zombie impression. The panicked Carl picks up his gun as his father crawls towards him (and to be fair to Carl, Rick should probably know better than to crawl slowly towards anybody while wheezing and not speaking) until Carl cries and fails to shoot his dad and Rick finally mutters something intelligible. There's no way Rick was going to die, which robs all the drama out of the moment — so we know Carl may be about to shoot his living dad, which isn't dramatic as much as it makes Carl look even dumber.

The Walking Dead's Carl is so bad at the zombie apocalypse, you guys S

The other member this episode follows is Michonne, who had a bit of a meltdown after the events of the prison. After getting two more pets — i.e., zombies whose arms and lower jaws she's chopped off, rendering them more or less docile and which keep other zombies from noticing her for some reason (and by the way, why doesn't EVERYBODY have some of these now) — she sets off, but not before stabbing Herschel's decapitated, zombified head on her way out.

Basically, she just wanders around in the middle of a zombie herd, while taking a long enough break to go to sleep and have a nightmare about her pre-apocalypse life, including her brother, her lover, her young child (the men being her original two "pets," and her child being very conspicuously gone). It's a nice look at Michonne's origins, but the dream sequence is so obvious and weird — they keep talking about how some movie (art show?) was too pretentious, but they sound really pretentious about it themselves, and it makes it hard to get too worked up about what Michonne has lost, even though they show — with help from a Michonne soliloquy later on — that her "lover" killed himself because he couldn't handle it anymore.

Eventually, Michonne kind of snaps out of her fugue state and realizes she's walking in the middle of a herd of zombies, and kills them all (including her pets), and heads back to some footprints she passed by a day or two ago. These are actually Rick and Carl's tracks, and she follows them almost directly to the house Rick and Carl stopped at and rings the doorbell. Rick looks through the peephole — because a guess a zombie could have bumped into it — and laughs, and tells Carl, "It's for you."

There's not much going on here, but some of it works. Seeing Rick and Carl scramble to survive like they did before Herschel's farm is a great reminder of the life they lost with the prison, and really emphasizes the consequences of the last episode. Watching Carl discover a flatscreen TV that won't turn on and videogames he can't play — a brief second of joy when he thinks about his old life, then the crushing realization that it's gone for good — is fantastic. I never mind the basic survival stuff — that's what this show is, about how people survive and they choose to survive (or not) but Rick is unconscious, Michonne is practically unconscious, which leaves Carl to carry the episode, and he seems like he's trying for Joffrey's crown as Most Unlikable Boy on TV.

It wasn't great, that's for sure. I assume next week focuses on other survivors, so let's see how a Carl-less episode is before we start panicking.

The Walking Dead's Carl is so bad at the zombie apocalypse, you guys S

Assorted Musings:

• Tonight's episode was written by TWD's comic creator Robert Kirkman. I really haven't read any of Kirkman's comics other than Marvel Zombies, but I wonder how many of Carl's terribleness came from the script. I mean, Chandler Riggs isn't exactly Laurence Olivier, but I don't know how much Olivier could have done with two scenes of gross zombie-fighting incompetence.

• Tonight was the motherlode of obnoxious Carl lines. "Shane taught me. Remember him?" "I'd be fine if you died." "I was careful." NO YOU WEREN'T, CARL. I WAS WATCHING.

• Michonne had a doppel-zombie in her herd. I thought that was clever.

• The scene of Carl eating a 112-oz. can of pudding desperately needed a scene following it of Carl vomiting up 105-oz. of pudding.

• Nothing sums up this episode better than this gif of Carl completely failing to shove open a door. It was also the episode's highlight.

At more than 800,000 years old, the impressions, recently discovered in England, are the most ancient evidence of human life in northern Europe, and the earliest examples of human footprints outside of Africa.

Last year, archaeologists happened upon dozens of shallow hollows and depressions on the shores of Happisburgh, along the Norfolk Coast in the east of England. The depressions had been washed out by a storm and exposed by the tide. The researchers immediately took notice of their size, shape and position. Archaeologist Nick Ashton, of the British Museum, describes the discovery in a blog entry:

These are the oldest human footprints ever discovered in Europe S

We found them by pure chance in May last year. We were about to start a geophysics survey on the foreshore, when an old-time friend and colleague, Martin Bates from Trinity St David's University, pointed out the unusual surface. The site lies beneath the beach sand in sediments that actually underlie the cliffs. The cliffs are made up of soft sands and clays, which have been eroding at an alarming rate over the last ten years, and even more so during the latest winter storms. As the cliffs erode they reveal these even earlier sediments at their base, which are there for a short time before the sea washes them away.

"We wondered whether these are, in fact, footprints," said Simon Parfitt, an archaeologist at University College London. "Animal footprints and possibly even human footprints."

What the researchers needed to do, Parfitt explains in the above video, which recounts the discovery, was uncover the impressions and photograph them from various angles so as to create 3D reconstructions of the site. One year later and the researchers have done exactly that – and what they've found is one of the most remarkable discoveries ever made on British shores.

British Museum archaeologist Nick Ashton said the find — announced Friday and published in the journal PLOS ONE — was "a tangible link to our earliest human relatives."

Preserved in layers of silt and sand for millennia before being exposed by the tide last year, the prints give a vivid glimpse of some of our most ancient ancestors. They are from a group, including at least two children and one adult male. They could be a family foraging on the banks of a river scientists think may be the ancient Thames, beside grasslands where bison, mammoth, hippos and rhinoceros roamed.

The researchers said the humans who left the footprints may have been related to Homo antecessor, or "pioneer man," whose fossilized remains have been found in Spain. That species died out about 800,000 years ago.

Ashton said the footprints are between 800,000 — "as a conservative estimate" — and 1 million years old, at least 100,000 years older than the previous earliest evidence of human habitation in Britain.

"I imagine that there will be plenty of skeptics out there, as were we initially, but the more we eliminated the other possibilities, the more convinced we became," writes Ashton. "The sediments are hard and compacted – you can jump on them today and leave little impression. And there are no erosional processes that leave those sort of hollows."

The researchers' findings are slated to appear in a forthcoming issue of PLOS ONE. This link won't be active until the paper goes online; until then, I recommend heading to the BBC for Pallab Ghosh's excellent write-up, or the British Museum for Ashton's blog entry.

The biggest tear-jerker scenes from last night's Arrow

You would think that an episode called "Heir of the Demon" would be crammed full of fight scenes — and there are some sweet ones in there. But mostly last night's Arrow fed off its audience's tears. Here are the absolute saddest scenes from the latest Arrow.

Spoilers ahead...

Nyssa Al Ghul touches down in Starling City, and after taking out an entire airport arrivals terminal, she goes after the audience. This episode leaves us wringing out hankies and splashing water on our over-heated faces. You wouldn't have thought a woman who just last week had Laurel poisoned with Tibetan pit viper venom (yep, turns out she wasn't that drunk), would be this sympathetic. And for a while, it doesn't look like she'll pull it off.

Nyssa confronts Sarah — who is home keeping a covert eye on Laurel — and instead of stabbing her, kisses her. This surprises a snooping Ollie, and leaves the audience worried because tv shows have a tendency to turn female characters surprise gay for a salacious scene and a plot twist. But Nyssa really seems to love Sarah, and when Sarah says, "I loved you," Nyssa takes in the past-tense verb with real pain. Sure, she kidnaps Sarah's mother, Dinah, in retaliation, but the emotion is there.

Elsewhere in Starling City, Moira's campaign is paying off just as much as I hoped it would. Sebastian seems surprisingly cool for a supervillain, and tells Ollie on the phone not to worry about switching his allegiance to his mother. Walter is flirting shamelessly with Moira. The voters seem to be taking it well. Moira and Sebastian have a low-voiced supervillain smooth-talk-off where they tell each other about how badass they are.

And then there's Felicity. Felicity kept tabs on Moira's illegal accounts last season and finds that one of them has been tapped to pay off her obstetrician and keep Thea's paternity under wraps. Felicity decides that other people deserve to know this one woman's personal information, and tells Moira that she has to tell Ollie. Not Thea. Ollie. Moira says she won't tell Ollie, and neither will Felicity, because she knows that Felicity is in love with Ollie. If Felicity spills the beans, Ollie's opinion of her will forever be tainted with the shock of really, really bad news.

Felicity tells Ollie anyway. She tells him at Moira's announcement rally, mere moments before Ollie is set to introduce Moira. This makes for fantastic television. Throughout Ollie's speech, I was leaning in to the screen like he was announcing lotto numbers and I needed the money for a kidney operation. He stumbles through the speech, getting the room down to absolute silence as he says, "I can promise you. You don't know my mother. You don't know her like I do. You don't know what she's capable of . . . when it comes to helping Starling City!" Nice save, Oliver.

Now, I happen to think that Felicity is absolutely in the moral wrong here. However, she leads in to her revelation to Ollie by talking about how terrified she is of abandonment, and that really sells the fear. Also, given what happens at the end of this episode, it looks like Moira called Ollie's reaction exactly right, so I'll upgrade the tear factor here.

Tear Factor: The Single Glycerine Movie-Star Tear

Quentin has been having quite a difficult episode. He's been trying to get a belligerent Laurel into rehab. He's been trying to get Sarah to admit she's still alive to the rest of the family — and lying to Laurel, who thinks she hallucinated Sarah. He's been dealing with the fact that his estranged wife has been kidnapped. He's been trying to go head-to-head with highly trained assassins to find out the location of his kidnapped wife, only to have the captured assassin drink snake venom and die on him. And then he gets hit in the face with the fact that all this is happening not because his daughter was in the League of Assassins, but because his daughter was lovers with the head assassin's daughter. And that daughter is still obsessed with her.

Sarah has an awkward but low-key coming-out scene with Quentin, but later, when they get a moment, she says, "I loved her, Dad. Are you upset?" He looks at her and says, "In the end I'm just happy you had someone to care for you." You know how there are times when noble and sweet scenes make you cry harder than sad scenes? This would be one of those times.

Tear Factor: The Ugly Cry

All this ends in a confrontation between Sarah and Nyssa, with Ollie and Quentin periodically joining in the fight. Let me say, there is a sue-wheat fight sequence in which Ollie shoots at Nyssa and Nyssa flips backwards onto her back on a table, grabs her bow, and then flips forward to fight him. But the tear factor on this? Through the roof.

Sarah turns herself in to Nyssa to save her mother, which means Dinah sees that her daughter is alive, beams with joy, and then gets told Sarah is leaving and is dragged away screaming. Ollie notices that Sarah took the snake venom and thinks she's about to kill Nyssa, but in fact Sarah has poisoned herself. Dinah and Quentin reenter the room to see their daughter die again. Oh my god.

Finally, there's a big battle between Nyssa and Ollie, that's only resolved when Ollie gets a reprieve to bring Sarah back to life, at which point Nyssa realizes that Sarah would rather die than come back to her. With tears in her eyes, she releases Sarah and leaves.

Tear Factor: The Group Sob

There are a few more sad scenes. Throughout this episode there is a flashback to the Lance's idyllic home life pre-shipwreck, and how horrible it was to find out first that Ollie was dead and then that Sarah had died with him. Sadly, the scenes are a bit rushed and neither of the Lance daughters were at their best at the time.

Only one Lance daughter improved since then. Laurel doesn't take Sarah's reappearance well. You can tell she's going to be entertaining when, while Quentin and Dinah coo over Sarah, she comes staggering into her living room, takes a baleful look at the trio, and matter-of-factly grabs a bottle of wine, shaking it to see how much wine is left in there. She then tells Sarah how she's not surprised about Sarah leaving with her boyfriend or Sarah refusing to tell her family that she's alive for six agony-filled years because, "It's Sarah." She tells Sarah to get out, and I'm disappointed when what I know should happen doesn't happen for a few moments. But, no, Arrow would never disappoint me that way. I just had to be patient. Sarah lingers and Laurel screams, "I said get out!" And she throws the glass at the door as Sarah leaves.

Tear Factor: The Lip Quiver (And mostly for the parents' sake.)

Now that I'm all cried out, here comes the rage. Towards the end of the episode, Moira is watching footage of her rally. Ollie comes in, dressed all in black, and tells her that Felicity told him everything, and Moira is nothing but lies. Lies! He will put up a charade for Thea, and he will support Moira in public, but as far as he's concerned they are no longer family.

If I were Moira, I would torment the hell out of him with this. I would schedule nonstop campaign appearances. I would be taking him and Thea out to family picnics and having them stay in to movie nights. And when he calls me on it I would say this:

"Okay, when I was a young wife, I found out my husband cheated on me every chance he could. Lonely and hurt, I had one discreet affair with a family friend who, in those days, showed no signs of bad character. Perhaps, morally, I was wrong not to inform the friend that he was the father of my child, but seeing as he went psycho-killer and tormented his own son in later years, I think we should agree that practically it turned out to be the right idea. I can understand my family being upset, but I'm not going to put up — two decades later — with my son, who has cheated on one sister with the other, who has been lying to his whole family for years, who, let's face it, eagerly hops on whatever current supervillainess is willing to give him a ride, coming at me with this 'YOU ARE THA MOTHAH OF LIIIIIEEEEES' shit. It's not your business, kid. Get over it."

Tear Factor: Dry-Eyed Righteous Wrath

The biggest tear-jerker scenes from last night's Arrow

And the end scene! Ollie and Sarah hook up in the Arrow cave! First of all, Sarah accepts Laurel's drunken anger with a resigned humor that makes me like her even more. Second, I love those salmon ladders she was doing earlier in the episode, and clearly they paid off once the shirts came off in this scene. Third, I am as staunch a Laurel-defender as you'll find anywhere on the internet, but I have to say this: Ollie? You picked the right sister.
