Four Players Are Co-Op Heroes. The Fifth Is Their Giant Enemy. Fight! S

In a lot of mainstream multiplayer video games, we dress up as a soldier and take on opposing teams of other, similar soldiers. What if there were a game about a team of soldiers taking on one GIANT opponent? Maybe a massive beast that breathes fire? That'd be cool.

That'd also be an actual thing: Turtle Rock Studios' Evolve, which I recently played and which left me impressed. A couple of weeks ago I attended a press event in San Francisco hosted by 2K, Evolve's publisher. There, a bunch of members of the press were stationed at one of several five-computer tables, where we spent most of the day playing the game against (or alongside) one another.

The setup for each five-player game is basically this:

Four Players Are Co-Op Heroes. The Fifth Is Their Giant Enemy. Fight! S

Evolve is best described as a cooperative multiplayer boss battle where one player controls the boss. Four players hop into the shoes of the hunters, a group of presumably well-paid mercenaries who parachute into troubled areas and take care of big beasties that show up and cause trouble. The fifth player controls the monster itself—a huge, extremely powerful beast that can shred just about anything in its path and only grows more powerful as the match progresses.

The hunters win by killing the monster, and the monster wins by either killing the hunters or "evolving" a couple of times and taking out a level-specific objective. (In the case of the level we played, that meant destroying a generator and eating some helpless scientists.)

I'll share some bullet-pointed impressions and facts here, but 2K sent over enough b-roll footage of the game that it'll be way easier for me to just show you. So, I cut together this video (apologies for any Google ads on the clip; not our doing):

Looks cool, right? Of course, the usual preview caveats apply: I only played one level of the game, it's still a ways from release, etc. (It's coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC in fall of 2014.)

More thoughts:

  • The classes all play very differently, and you'll have to dispatch with a full complement of the four classes: Medic, Assault, Support and Trapper. (You can't, say, dispatch with four medics.) There is simply no way to effectively fight the monster unless you stick to your class's designated skill: The medic must shoot a healing ray at injured party members, support must fire shields at the assault guy as he attacks, the trapper must smartly restrict the movement of the beast in order to let the rest of the team do damage. Teamwork is crucial, and communication is key. Without either of those things, the monster will destroy you, particularly since the monster player doesn't have to worry about either teamwork or communication.

  • In the video I said I was pretty sure that the footage is from the PC version, but now I'm 100% sure - I confirmed it with 2K.

  • I also confirmed that Evolve won't offer split-screen multiplayer. It'll be one player per console/PC.

  • The jetpacks are a lot of fun—between Evolve and Titanfall, it seems like enhanced verticality and jet-jumps are becoming more of a trend in multiplayer games. I'd be into that.

  • The game will be on next-gen consoles (Xbox One and PS4) and PC only. Ashton said that's largely because most of the sacrifices they'd need to make to get it running on last-gen consoles would have directly impacted gameplay and balance. You can't just take out some of the wildlife or flocks of birds, since they're all a crucial part of the level. (The monster needs to eat the wildlife to evolve, and birds give the hunters a sense of where the monster is hiding.)

  • You can play any of the roles you'd like offline, with bots fleshing out the other roles. You can also practice your monster game against AI hunters.

  • I asked how the game was performing on next-gen consoles, but Ashton told me it was way too early to say. The PC version we played, naturally, was running at 1080p and 60 frames per second. It looked great.

Four Players Are Co-Op Heroes. The Fifth Is Their Giant Enemy. Fight! S

  • Of all the classes I played, I think I enjoyed Support the most. He's the most versatile class, able to fire shields around other players, cloak and become invisible (the better to flee the giant beast), and call in a super-powerful airstrike, which can be devastating if the hunters happen upon a cocooned, vulnerable monster. Medic and Trapper were both fun as well, and the Trapper seems like the role that you'd want to give to your most seasoned player. Assault was the least interesting, but was still fun, provided you've got a good Medic and Support shielding you and healing you as you mix it up with a monster the size of a building.

  • Playing as the monster is the most fun of all, of course. In my turn as the monster, I took some major gambles, evolving almost in plain sight and reaching level 3. The initial hide-and-seek of levels one and two is often pretty exciting, but man does it open up when you reach level three. At that point, my coach from 2K told me, "Okay, you don't really have to run away anymore. You can take these guys." I turned around and just laid waste to the hunters, winning the match while a bunch of people stood around our table cheering. It was the best. (I never win in multiplayer games.)

  • In our demo, each of the four classes was represented by a named character. There was Hank the Support, Markov the Assault, Val the Medic and Griffon the Trapper. Of course the lady is the Medic, I initially thought. Later, though, design director Chris Ashton assured me that there are many different named characters that can fulfill each role, with women in other roles than just Medic. Sounds like this game will have a larger cast than the demo we played.

  • Each named character will fit into one of the four classes, but there'll be some variety in how they all work. They'll all have the same primary weapon/tool, but each one will load out with different backup weapons and abilities. As you play, you'll also unlock upgrades and new gear, though the developers weren't really going into specifics.

Four Players Are Co-Op Heroes. The Fifth Is Their Giant Enemy. Fight! S

  • It'll be crucial for Evolve to come with a wide variety of monster. The matches we played were like jacked-up Tank battles from Left 4 Dead—which makes sense, given that Turtle Rock made the first Left 4 Dead. The Goliath, the monster we controlled, was very much like a Tank from L4D—he even had a boulder-throw ability and a "pounce" like L4D's Hunter. That was fine (and fun!) but it also felt a liiiiittle been-there-done-that. The developers were tight-lipped on other monster types, but I'd love to see some greater variety. Maybe a cloaking, stealth-based monster, or a flying monster, or some sort of Xenomorphian, agile hunter? Just saying!

  • The level we played was large and varied, and left room for a lot of strategy, particularly with the larger, more dangerous AI monsters roaming around. A smart monster player could lead the hunters into a trap, getting them bushwhacked by the giant alligator that lives under the factory, or leading them into a horde of poison crawlers. Knowing the level can give either side a substantial advantage.

  • As we played, everyone got better at playing as the monster, to the point where we started to understand the choke points in the map, the good hunting grounds, the best ways to sneak up on the hunters, etc. It'd take me at least a half-dozen more go-rounds to really get my head around the whole map, though. At one point, we played as hunters and our "monster coach" from 2K took us on and absolutely destroyed us by mostly using the monster's stealth mode so that we couldn't track him easily. Some other people from 2k also told me a story of how 2K's best monster player took on Turtle Rock's best team of hunters. He apparently went in cocky, sure that he could take them down, but they broke out strategies he'd never even heard of and wrecked him. It sounds like there'll be room for some very high-level play in Evolve.

I was impressed with Evolve, and certainly want to play/know more. If next-gen multiplayer games want to entice new players with this sort of asymmetrical design and smart cooperative gameplay, sign me up. Just as Left 4 Dead did last-gen, games like Evolve will likely get me to hop online much more often than I do now.

Here's a new trailer for the game:

Werewolf cats are so hot right now.

The Lykoi breed of cat is blowing up for fans of both cats and werewolves. A group of breeders who originally worked with hairless cats started breeding a mix of hairless and haired kitties, thus creating a half-haired cat that kind of looks like a werewolf. And they are super adorable. Just look at their little faces!

Thanks to the Lykoi Cat Facebook we have a gallery of them. I wonder what they feel like when you hold them. A slightly hairy baby?

EONS: A game where you create the universe and then destroy it onlinecollegedegreee.blogspot.com

onlinecollegedegreee.blogspot.com EONS: A game where you create the universe and then destroy it

EONS: A game where you create the universe and then destroy it S

In EONS, stars form and planets give rise to life within a few turns. A few turns later, your opponent might make your star go supernova or obliterate your planet with a cosmic collision.

EONS is a card game at its core, although there is a game board used to track turns and the current state of the universe. Each player is a cosmic architect. You have a collection raw elements as well an abstract substance called "essence" that represents your ability to shape and create cosmic bodies. Each turn you'll play cards from your hand representing things like stars, planets, or nebulae, paying for them from your reserve of elements and essence.

EONS: A game where you create the universe and then destroy it S

What's interesting is that when you create a star, the elements you used stay with the star. Each turn you'll have to fuse some of those elements, creating new elements. Eventually, the star will run out of elements to fuse, and it will burn out. The central strategic idea of the game is to manage those resources – stars generate essence, and fusion lets you generate more advanced elements, which are required to play more powerful cards. It's one big cosmic balancing act.

Resource management gameplay gives EONS a very European feel, reinforced by the painted wooden cubes used to represent the elements. At times it feels a bit dry, but if you're a fan of Euro games it will definitely find a home on your game shelf.

EONS: A game where you create the universe and then destroy it S

It's a very interactive game, as you can play supernovas, cosmic collisions, and even black holes on your opponents, destroying the resource generating bodies they'd worked so hard to create. In the competitive game, players are working to have the most victory points when the universe finally collapses into entropy. The gradual dissipation of the universe is modeled by a general reduction in the availability of resources as the game goes on. You can also play cooperatively, using a number of scenarios that force players to work together to build the universe before the entropic clock hits zero.

EONS: A game where you create the universe and then destroy it S

This would make a terrific educational game although it is, of course, not strictly scientific. There are only a handful of elements, and the cosmic processes are vastly simplified. As a cosmic architect, you have certain godlike powers that aren't totally realistic. But it does a wonderful job of explaining, in a broad sense, how stars work (that is, are formed from elements and powered by fusion). There's also a fair amount of on-the-fly basic math required, and winning demands careful planning and management of your elements.

EONS was originally funded by a successful Kickstarter, and the creators are currently funding an expansion. They've hit their goal, and stretch goals could unlock even more. The expansion sounds excellent, adding three separate card sets which spice up the base game. There are new cosmic bodies, like binary stars and asteroid fields, while one card set focuses on the emergence of sentient life colonizing the universe. The last set includes new ways to destroy your opponents' stuff, like rogue black holes and red giants, which turn into black holes when they burn out. They're also printing the secret agenda cards, previously only available as downloads. These cards give architects victory points for accomplishing hidden goals, like having a certain mix of planet types or a certain number of black holes. Finally, a ton of new cooperative scenarios will be included as well.

I definitely enjoyed playing EONS, and the expansion card sets seem like they will address the "somewhat dry" issue by adding fun and interesting ways to create and destroy on a cosmic scale.

Batman's never been particularly lucky in love, so normally he doesn't even mess with it. But when he does, like in these amazing 1966 valentines that Mark Anderson dug up, it reveals that the world of Bat-romance is a very strange place. Suffice it to say, Batman screaming "VA-ROOOM!" is the least creepy of the lot.

Okay, Riddler, maybe I'll grant you #2, but what the hell is #1 about? Are you suggesting that true love can be destroyed if you punch your romantic partner in the face? I mean, that makes sense, but it's a hell of a valentine message. And what army has ever been stopped by true love? Do you mean prostitutes? I think you mean prostitutes.

Humans go through moult and grow new pelts

People who live with pets notice that some animals moult in the spring and fall. Losing feathers or fur is unattractive, but it leads to a beautiful new coat in which to survive the winter or to attract a mate. It turns out humans also moult and grow attractive new coats of hair.

Humans go through moult and grow new pelts

Hair grows in a three-phase process. During the anagen phase, the tiny bud of the follicle sinks down and grows a new robust follicle underneath the shriveled follicle of the last hair. The new hair grows up alongside the old one, peeping out of the same orifice, until the old, rootless hair finally falls out. The process of growth is short for body hair like eyebrows and eyelashes, but can last for years in scalp hair. The amount of years can be anywhere from two to six, which is why some people can't grow their hair past their shoulders, while others can grow it out long enough to sit on. After the anagen phase come the catagen, or "resting" phase. The hair stops growing, and beneath the skin the follicle begins to shrink, losing depth and width. Finally, there is the telogen phase, when the hair stops growing, and can come loose from the head entirely.

After the first hair growth of infancy, human follicles don't sync up, but at any one time most of the hair is in the anagen phase. There are times, however, when the percentage of hair in anagen increases. A study, which admittedly used only Caucasian men, found that among active people who spent a great deal of time outdoors, well over 90% of their follicles were in anagen in the early spring, and by the autumn only about 80% were in anagen. The autumn also doubled the rate of shed hairs. A second study of women in New York found that women grow more hair in the spring and moult in the fall, just like men do. And it's not just scalp hair that undergoes these changes. Men's beards kicked their growth up in the spring. As for body hair, an analysis of thigh hair found that in May and November about 80% of follicles were sprouting, while in March and August only 60% were in anagen phase.

It's possible that fall body hair might be an attempt to keep us warm, even though our body hair is paltry when compared to other animals. What's more interesting is the spring growth of hair. Spring is when nature gets it on. Might our bodies be trying to grow impressive pelts to attract the best mates? At a time when most women shave and wax, the idea of bushy body hair attracting a mate is intriguing.

More than 1/3rd of Americans think that astrology is a science S

A new study by the National Science Foundation shows that more than 40% of Americans think that astrology is a science, the highest levels since 1983.

The NSF uses the question about astrology as a science as both an indicator of scientific understanding among the public and as a way of measuring "the public's capacity to distinguish science from pseudoscience." In 2012, America did not do so well on this test, with just over half (only 55%) of Americans correctly identifying astrology as not a science. 32% thought it was "sort of scientific" and 10% called it "very scientific."

Over at Mother Jones, Chris Mooney has graphed out the results of the study by age. The biggest age group to believe in astrology this year are the 18-24 year olds, just like it has been in every previous year. But, though the 18-24 year olds formed the biggest group, the biggest jump in belief in astrology from the last time this study was done in 2010 actually came from the 35-44 year olds.

The news isn't all bad, however. In the same study, 80% of Americans also said they'd like to learn more about new scientific and technological discoveries (presumably not including astrology).

So, what do you think? Have you seen a rise in belief in astrology? Give us your take in the comments now.

A tiger in India has killed 10 people in six weeks

A female tiger has strayed from the confines of India's Corbett Tiger Reserve — and she's developed a taste for human meat. The big cat, who's prowling an area spanning 80 miles, has started attacking humans because she's not able to find enough natural prey.

This past Sunday, February 9th, the tigress claimed its 10th and most recent victim — a 50-year-old man who was collecting firewood in the forest outside Kalgarh village in Uttarakhand state. She ate parts of the man's leg and abdomen before being frightened away by villagers waving shovels and metal rods. Frustratingly, hunters nearly caught the tiger the day before using a live calf as bait. But she did not attack it, and left silently.

Back on December 29th, a 65-year-old man was mauled in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh state. Since then, a state of near-panic has spread amongst the thousands of villagers in the region.

Because the tiger has been tracked across an 80-mile (130-km) expanse, and because she's resorted to attacking humans, naturalists speculate that she's not able to find enough natural prey — a problem that endemic to many of the world's predators. They also believe she's tired and likely not getting enough rest. Today, India has about 3,200 tigers left in the wild — a far cry from the 5,000 to 7,000 in the 1990s when their habitat was twice as large. Tigers are an endangered species owing to rampant poaching and shrinking habitats.

Hunters haven't been able to trap the tigress owing to the dense forests, inadequate staffing, and poor coordination, and the locals are not impressed. On Sunday, a group of angry villagers seized a national forestry office, demanding protection and compensation for the families of the dead.

"We can understand the predicament of the villagers," noted Corbett Tiger Reserve deputy director Saket Badola in an AP release. "The villagers do not have toilets in their homes. They go out in the open or forest areas to answer nature's call. In this scenario it is difficult to give protection to each and every villager. We have advised them to move in groups."

Want to see how Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost dreamed up the final installment of the Cornetto trilogy? Check out this very rough outline of The World's End and see how this wacky alien invasion flick came to be.

Actor Simon Pegg tweeted out a very close look at the very early stages of his last Wright film. Elaborating on Twitter, he said, "August 2011, me and @edgarwright, one page, whole film. The very beginnings of The World's End." And then he followed it up with a blown up shot of the actual outline. Love the "VALLEY OF FIRE" and "Who Wins?" notes.

Bitten has all the hot werewolf vodka marketing action you can handle

As the Mutts' onslaught of werewolf serial killers continues, we learn Elena's secret werewolf origin. But who cares when the goddamn vodka marketing campaign Elena's super-dull boyfriend is working on is actually coming back into play?

Let's start with the episode's main plot, which is actually quite slow. That hunter that Clay tussled with is missing, and obviously dead and somewhere on the Danvers' land. Before the Pack can take care of it, the Sheriff and the other redneck hunters show up, so a great big posse forms to search the 100 acres of land, including Elena and Nick. Elena smells the body, she and Nick concoct an elaborate scheme to distract everybody (she fakes twisting her ankle, Nick gets in a fight with a redneck) and Laura drags the corpse somewhere else in wolf form.

Boom, done. But meanwhile we also flashback to Clay and Elena's early relationship, and when I say interesting I mean bizarre. Clay is an anthropology professor who has written a book on anthropomorphic relations? Uh-huh. And Elena is hired as his "typist"? Sure. And they fall in love over the course of the semester while he dictates his next book to her? What the hell is happening? But this just sets the stages for the real insanity when Clay takes Elena to Stonehaven for the first time. First of all, Jeremy is pissed, because 1) Clay didn't tell him he was coming, and 2) it's stupid for Clay to have gotten engaged to a human girl. So he sends Clay away and serves tea to Elena, which is when Clay, as a wolf, pads into the living room and just bites Elena directly on the hand

What the hell? Jeremy seems as surprised as Elena is that a wolf has walked into the living room, and he cautions her against petting it, so I assume he didn't order Clay to do it. Also, no woman has ever survived "the change" (as they so cleverly put it) before Elena, so this was a death sentence for all either of them knew. So I repeat: What the hell? Why did Clay bite her? Did something make him? Is something going on here behind-the-scenes, or is this moment that makes zero sense like last week's very unfortunate wolf sex harassment scene?

Elena survives, obviously, but hates Clay. That doesn't keep her from policing the Mutts with him for two years before she kills that one dude with the werewolf hand and decides to run off to Canada. (Note: I'm assuming she hated Clay all that time, unless Clay did something else to her at the end of their two-year stint that made her pissed off again.)

What else? Santos stops by to offer his proposal to Jeremy, his information for being allowed in the pack again. Jeremy gets the information and then says he'll think about letting him back in. I'm sure that won't bite them in the ass at all. Elena's super-dull boyfriend invites her to a wedding, and Elena abandons the Pack to go home, even though they're still under attack by an unknown number of werewolf serial killers. That'll also probably have no ramifications whatsoever. And speaking of werewolf serial killers, the Mutt named Kane recruits a new one — a pedophile who appears to have gotten his hands on Elena when she was little, so, eww.

But as mentioned above, the biggest development come during the update of Dullfriend's vodka marketing campaign. Dullfriend meets with his client who — and I swear I'm not making this up — shows Dullfriend footage of what are obviously (to the audience) footage of Elena and Logan as wolves running around, and asks Dullfriend if he can somehow work it into the campaign. Dullfriend, like any marketing executive when tasked with a completely insane request from a client, just says sure and never even questions the fact this dude has given him a video of giant wolves standing around in a forest and told him to make it somehow sell vodka.

And suddenly, this stupid vodka campaign is now the most interesting part of the show. Unfortunately for Bitten, though, it's still not that interesting.

Bitten has all the hot werewolf vodka marketing action you can handle

Assorted Musings:

  • Early in the episode, when referring to the serial killer whose scrapbook she stole, Elena says, "I'm the bitch that he wants." Never do that again, Bitten. Never.

  • Professor Clay tries to not hire Elena for his typist position by claiming he doesn't have time to train her to spell words like Tlinget (an indigenous tribe of people on the northern Pacific coast). He does, apparently have time to blow interviewing hundreds of underpaid stenographers until he finds one that already has his ridiculously specific vocabulary. Clay's a dick.

  • Clay gets naked awfully fast in his flashback sex scene with Elena. They don't even bother to lock his office door.

  • Apparently when Jeremy found Clay, he was a "feral swamp boy." This explains his hotheaded nature, and continues to make his sudden job as an anthrolopogy professor all the more insane.

  • That shot of Jeremy, Clay and Nick in the doorway at the end was ridiculous.

  • "You're like a rook, Clay — stuck in your ways, zigzagging all over the place." DOS SANTOS DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY CHESS.

Terminator Genesis

According to Deadline, the role of Kyle Reese is down to either Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard) and Boyd Holbrook (The Host). Whoever gets it will be joining of the already-cast Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Sara Connor and Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) as John Connor.

Bleeding Cool says this film is rumored to take place over multiple timelines, including a new "meet cute" version of how Kyle met Sarah. Deadline says this film, and the one that follows, will tell the story of the final battle against Skynet. It's also expected to spawn the new TV show, currently in development, which might be another new timeline. [Deadline via Bleeding Cool]

Star Wars

Even though we're still getting nothing but rumors, Hitfix cites sources who claim that most of the major casting is done, with many announcements in the pipeline. They've also got sources saying that filming will take place from May to September of this year, giving about a year for post-production work to be done. [Hitfix via Slashfilm]

Batman Vs. Superman

When the film was announced, Zack Snyder used a quote from The Dark Knight Returns, and now he's talked a little bit about how the series will influence the movie and how Ben Affleck's Batman fits into the movie:

The comic book will influence the history of Batman vs. Superman, on which the writer David S. Goyer and myself will work.

Ben brings an interesting counterweight to the performance of Henry in the role of Superman. He has the experience necessary to paint the picture of an older and more advised man than Clark Kent, who bears the scars of a seasoned vigilante while retaining the charm that Bruce Wayne deploys when present in the world.

This seems to hint that the events of the comic will be re-imagined as the backstory of the characters in the film. [Popcorn Magazine via Comic Book Therapy]

Jurassic World

Star Chris Pratt says his ex-military character has a bit of both Sam Neil's Dr. Alan Grant and Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm from the original:

He's got a little of both. He's got a little bit of the Goldblum cynicism but also the Sam Neill excitement at the wonder of the biology of it all, so it's a combination.

He went on to explain how you can have a world where people keep messing with dinosaurs:

Like, how do you suspend disbelief to be like, 'Oh yes, let's make this mistake again. We haven't learned our lesson about dinosaurs, we should definitely live with them and see how that works out!' after like three tries at it. They answer the question really well through the script. Colin did a great job of writing it and justifying it and in his own way having fun with that, so anybody who goes in with that question will be really amused - the way I was - about how they answer that.

Akira

Director Jaume Collet-Serra confirmed that he's still working on a live-action adaptation, despite the long delay:

It's great that they're waiting for me. It's different, because you have to be respectful of the source material. Otomo adapted his own work from a manga into an anime and both things are completely different and genius. The only way to do a live version of "Akira" is to take the spirit and adapt it. It will be as different as the anime was from the manga.

He also discussed a little bit about his plan for the adaptation:

I think you cannot make a movie about "Akira" and hope that everyone understands it. Like everything else, you have to make three or four movies in one where there's the essence somewhere. If you're a fan, you already know what it's about and you'll see it's part of the same world, but trying to oversimplify it would be a mistake. I think if at some point a character tries to explain it to the audience at the end of the second act, that's a problem. It's more like an existential opera. It's something that can only be explained in the manga, and even in the anime it's hard to follow.

Nerve

The pair behind Paranormal Activity 3 and 4 and Catfish, Henry Joost and Ariel Shulman, will adapt Jeanne Ryan's 2012 novel Nerve. Here's the synopsis of the book:

When Vee is picked to be a player in Nerve, an anonymous game of dares broadcast live online, she discovers that the game knows her. They tempt her with prizes taken from her ThisIsMe page and team her up with the perfect boy, sizzling-hot Ian. At first it's exhilarating–Vee and Ian's fans cheer them on to riskier dares with higher stakes. But the game takes a twisted turn. Suddenly they're playing all or nothing, and the prize may be their lives.

The Walking Dead

In talking about what effect seeing her father executed would have on Maggie, Lauren Cohen said the rest of season 4 will be the "goriest" yet:

No, it's so needless. And I think it drives the whole second half of the season for her because we never see her process anything. But by virtue of her actions you can tell that she's processing. Maggie doesn't really know where any of her people are right now. That drives the whole back half of the season for her. And for everyone. She's not getting the chance or the time to process. But it's going to be filthy. This is definitely going to be the goriest yet.

She continued on to describe where Maggie's character will go:

You really see how far she can go for what she is fighting for and for the things she holds dear. This is the first time you see Maggie on her own, and with everything that she's learned and the evolution of this character, how prepared she is for this world. And it turns out she's pretty prepared. [Laughs] But its been an insane adventure, a turn in the story that none of us anticipated. All these episodes are gems, complete gems. It's been a real treat for all of us. It's been really tense. And we've gotten to explore our characters in different situations with different people sometimes, and sometimes with no one. It's been a great opportunity to test our mettle.

Danai Gurira interpreted the dream/flashback Michonne had on Sunday:

I looked up the interpretation of dreams and I had already decided what the dream meant and I looked it up and I was right. Her subconscious is forcing her to metabolize her grief and if you won't do it when you're awake then your subconscious might force you to do it when you're asleep. The idea of remembering holding her son or having a loving moment with her man is not something that she's willing to revisit in her consciousness, and she's shut it completely down. So that's why she keeps away from Judith. But the idea is there is too much trauma going on, so you have to process it or you might just die.

Gurira also refrained from confirming that the other character in the flashback was Terry, the friend of Michonne's boyfriend, Mike. [Entertainment Weekly]

Robert Kirkman, on the other hand, was completely ready to identify Mike and Terry:

I'm not sure how much I can reveal. It is somewhat in line with what her backstory is in the comic book series and there's definitely more that will be revealed as this season goes on, but this is what we've had in mind for this character since the very beginning. There've been other ideas and plotlines thrown out in the writers' room, but it was always the plan to reveal that the Mike and Terry characters, her boyfriend and her boyfriend's friend, were her [zombie] pets. There are going to be more layers revealed about how that came about and what lead to that. But that has always been our backstory and it's great to finally have that revealed on the show.

Kirkman also said that, in a way, Rick not losing an arm like he did in the comic was a decision made based on Kirkman realizing that it made writing the story more difficult:

Yeah, there are certain things where I can look back with hindsight having done the comic. That's one of the most fun aspects of being in the writer's room. I can say, I did the story this way and the audience reacted this way. Deconstructing things from that point of view and really being able to game them out long-term is a lot of fun. There are a lot of times in the comic book where people don't notice it because the panels don't move, but Rick is standing on top of something he would not have been able to climb on without a hand… It'd be more difficult to do that in the television show. All that being said, I'm not ruling out the possibility that he may lose the hand eventually.

Sleepy Hollow

Roberto Orci said that, now that they've established the town of Sleepy Hollow and Ichabod's comfort there, season 2 will take the characters outside the town:

It is the beginning of expanding the reach of the storytelling. Also, not just for the mythology and evil coming to town, but Ichabod [Tom Mison] seeing the rest of the world is just a fascinating thing to do. He's only seen [so little] of our modern society through the lens of a town that resembles his own town to a great degree, except more Starbucks. Opening it up is absolutely something we hope to do.

. . . He's been in this town the whole time and he's adapted very well, but I'd like to see his reaction the first time he gets on an airplane," Orci says. "We were joking that he thinks, 'Oh, are we driving all the way there in this thing?' And then the plane takes off. Imagine seeing the White House and all the stuff that he never got to see that are the fruit of his labor and his sacrifice. Things like that will blow his mind.

Agents of SHIELD

Executive producer Jed Whedon gave a little synopsis of Sif's role in Agents of SHIELD:

We always have our radar up for ways to tie our series into the Marvel films and bringing in an Asgardian really cements that connection. Lady Sif comes here on a hunting mission — sent by Odin — to find her arch-enemy Lorelei and bring her back to Asgard. It throws our agents for a loop when they find themselves in a fight right alongside this powerful woman from Thor's world.

Once Upon a Time

EP Eddy Kitsis says that Once's take on Rapunzel is going to be dark:

We went a little darker and freakier. A little more horror story in the vein of [the 2004 movie] The Grudge.

Rapunzel will be visited in her tower by a "hooded menace." Rebecca Mader refused to comment on whether the "menace" would be her character, the Wicked Witch of the West. Here's a photo of Rapunzel (Alexandra Metz) and Charming (Josh Dallas). [TV Guide]

Revolution

Speaking with My Fanbase, Mat Vairo answered a question about the future interactions between Connor, Charlie, and Monroe:

In this season so far Monroe had a very interesting chemistry with Charlie. There was definitely a spark, as impossible as that might sound. How will Connor's and Charlie's quick interlude mix things up for these three characters?

I don't really know. From my experience that relationship hasn't really been played up much. But who knows maybe they'll hook up. Would be kinda weird/gross though since he already caught his son with her. Ultimately though I think it would be kinda funny and maybe add an interesting layer to the group dynamic, but I don't see it happening. Never say never though...
