Big Hero 6, the manga-inspired animated movie set in the Marvel universe, is due to come out this November — but they're still tinkering with it, apparently. Chris Williams, co-director of Bolt, has come on board as co-director, and they've added a new producer, Ray Conli (Tangled).
This is probably nothing to freak out about — Disney's Frozen similarly added a new co-director, Jennifer Lee, just a year before the film came out. Williams is supplementing Big Hero 6's original director Don Hall, who previously directed 2011's Winnie the Pooh movie. Both Williams and Hall have a string of writing credits on animated movies — they both have story credits on Brother Bear and The Emperor's New Groove, for example.
It sounds as though Conli might be replacing Big Hero 6's original producer, Kristina Reed.
Big Hero 6 is based on a six-issue miniseries of the same name, written by X-Men scribe Chris Claremont and drawn by David Nakayama and Terry Pallot. In the movie version, robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada saves the city of San Fransokyo from a criminal scheme with the help of a robot named Baymax, plus four other heroes: "Gogo, Honey Lemon, sushi chef Wasabi and fanboy Fred."
The early designs for San Fransokyo look gorgeous, but you can also see why this might be a difficult concept to bring to life on the big screen, and why they might need some more pairs of hands to make it work. Here's the original concept trailer:
