Noelle Stevenson's Nimona is one of our favorite webcomics, a hilarious tale of a not-so-evil supervillain and his pushy, shapeshifting sidekick. Now Stevenson is headed into Buffy territory with a new print comic about girls at scout camp who fight monsters.
Comics publisher Boom! has announced the new series Lumberjanes, a full-color series published under the creator-owned Boom! Box imprint. Lumberjanes will be co-written by Stevenson and Grace Ellis, and drawn by Brooke Allen—although the promo image below is clearly Stevenson's work. Boom! describes the series as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Gravity Falls," with five friends spending the summer at scout camp and dealing with pesky supernatural critter."
As Nimona has a finite story to tell and will eventually (sniff) come to an end, I'm excited that we'll see Stevenson bringing her particular magic to another project so soon. You can check out preview images from Lumberjanes at ComicsAlliance, and we'll be seeing the comic itself in the spring.
