The secret life of Star Trek

Miles O'Brien bridged the worlds between Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and a new fan theory explains why.

After looking at these comics depicting the boredom of being the lone person working the Star Trek TNG transporter room, commenter Tolan advances this interesting theory:

Now I'm imagining that all of DS9 was just a Walter-Mitty-like fantasy that O'Brien concocted to relieve the boredom and monotony of his days in the transporter room.

That may be the greatest fan theory I've ever heard. One would question why he hated himself so much in his own fantasy though...

Ah! But that makes sense too. It's a fantasy where he's constantly got something to do because the whole place is always moments away from falling apart at the seams, has plenty of time to see his family, has a best friend who listens to all his woes & goes on adventures with him, and then, just to keep himself grounded, every so often something really shitty happens to him.

So what do you think? Give us your thoughts in the comments.
