The movie adaptation of The Stand has resurrected. But can Stephen King's winding end of days novel fit into just one movie? Warner Brothers certainly hopes so.
THR is reporting that The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is currently in charge to rework the entire script (which has been sitting in development hell for quite some time) and is in talks to direct. In an interview with Collider Boone shared a story about how King books were forbidden in his home as a child, so in order to get around the problem he replaced the original King covers with Christian ones. And when his Mom found The Stand in his room, she burned it in the fireplace. Yikes.
Mushy stuff aside, this is the THIRD director attached to this project. Take that however you want but this is a long, ass novel with complicated characters and insane tangents. Still not sure how this is a two-hour (or even three-hour) movie, but I'd like to see them try. The Stand takes place after most of Earth's population has been wiped out, and Good and Evil battle it out for the remaining souls. In the 1994 TV miniseries (included above), Jamey Sheridan played the Earth-bound demon named Randall Flagg and he was sensational. We would not be opposed to a reprisal role for Sheridan. Or at least give him a cameo where he gets to wear the mullet again.
