More Details From Edge of Tomorrow, and a New Look at a Godzilla Kaiju!

Novel author Veronica Roth reviews Divergent. There are new posters for Captain America 2, Transformers 4 and How to Train Your Dragon 2. Jaime Lannister has a new attitude in Game of Thrones season four. Agents of SHIELD may introduce Coulson's cellist. And Manu Bennett talks Deathstroke's revenge plan. Spoilers now!

Edge of Tomorrow

Total Film saw about 20 minutes of this film, and they have a description of the footage they saw. Here's some of the salient parts:

The footage opened on Cruise as he wakes up in the middle of a military base. Bill Paxton's Master Sergeant Farell approaches, and reveals that Cruise is being processed with the other new recruits ahead of a big battle tomorrow.

Cruise explains he's a PR man, not a soldier, and THAT there's been some kind of mistake. He asks for a phone call, and Farell pulls a switch-a-roo, revealing that Cruise is a deserter, and he's going to be forced to fight the next day.

. . . After a rousing speech from Paxton - "Remember, there is no courage without fear!" - Cruise has just enough time to ask one of his fellow soldiers how to take the safety off his gun, before a sudden explosion rips through the craft and bodies start to drop.

... After a spot of battlefield fun - including a very dark gag drawn from a falling spaceship - we're introduced to Emily Blunt as she punches and blasts an alien into submission. The aliens look a bit like Matrix squids covered in ultra-violet lights, and were probably the only minor disappointment in the footage.

... Cruise joins his group, who are quickly torn up by an attacking squid. He manages to switch on his gun, blasts one of the aliens, before working out how to use a rocket launcher, and exploding another. Unfortunately, that creature's weird acidy blood splashes Cruise's face, and kills him in a gross melty way

He wakes up back on the base, where we first found him, and the movie's Groundhog Day concept is revealed. He relives the processing day, the battle sequence, with each time trying to change events.

... We cut to Cruise seeking Blunt out, who, after a minor confrontation (it turns out she doesn't remember him) is convinced of Cage's time-loop situation, and tells him "What happened to you, happened to me, I had it and I lost it."

We then go into an impossibly cool training sequence, as Blunt trains Cruise to be the ultimate fighter, swinging a massive sword about and generally being amazing. Then, when Cruise f*cks up, falls down and complains of a broken back, she wearily pulls out a gun and shoots him in the head so they can start all over again.

Godzilla

The creature that appeared briefly in the trailer is apparently called "Muto," and it's an insectoid flying monster that lays eggs. Whether that's a codename for something we already know, or a brand new kaiju, remains to be determined. There is, however, a much closer look at Muto in the upcoming Godzilla Destruction Toy Set. Divergent

On her tumblr, Veronica Roth reviewed the film based on her book. She "loved" it, calling out Shailene Woodley as Tris and Theo James as Four in particular:

I feel like I should say that Shailene Woodley as Tris and Theo James as Four are everything I hoped for (or maybe more than I dared to hope for)." Cool your jets, fans.

She also praised director Neil Burger:

And we were so lucky to have Neil Burger driving this—his vision of the world, the amazing details and subtleties of it, his understanding of the story, and how seriously he took every part of it…I mean, you can tell. You can see it everywhere.

Game of Thrones

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau previewed what's going on for Jaime in season 4:

I really liked the fact that the Prince Charming hair is gone, although I miss the mud, to be honest! But one of the great things about being on that show is it changes and you get to do different things every year. Of course now he's back and clearly he was in need of a shower, but it also goes a little deeper than that. I guess in many ways he's kind of reinventing himself – he had a bit of an identity crisis when he lost his hand and now he's looking for a fresh start… or at least he tries to, as much as he can, being in that family.

Agents of SHIELD

In response to a question about whether we'd ever meet Agent Coulson's cellist ex, executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen answered:

We're not sure, but right now we do have an "expert" giving an "actress we love" a crash course of "cello lessons."

Well, that sounds like a 'yes.' [Comic Book Resources]

Arrow

Manu Bennett explained that Deathstroke's plan of revenge has been a long time coming:

Coming into Oliver's home is a huge statement that everybody is at risk. From the island, it was obvious that Slade wasn't a wealthy man. He was just a military guy. He's obviously gone to some lengths to accrue [enough] finances that he's shown up in the mansion and is an introduced friend of Moira, which means he's managed to come through society at the level that Moira Queen is used to associating with to the point where she's invited him into her house. There's been a lot of ground work. He's gone to great lengths to execute this revenge plot.

Bennett also commented on how tough a fight this'll be for Oliver:

Oliver is coming face to face with his equal, if not his master. Anything he has in his arsenal, Slade Wilson is very aware of. Looking into the history of Deathstroke and Slade Wilson in the comics, characters like Batman couldn't fight Deathstroke. Oliver knows very well that this is a man he might not be able to defeat even with his skills. He's going to be very careful of how he plays his cards with Slade because Slade is every bit the equal.

True Blood

Once Upon a Time

Sorry everyone (or, depending on your feelings about this show's portrayals of iconic fictional worlds, congratulations), but executive producer Adam Horowitz says that we won't be seeing much of Oz:

It's very different in its conception. The Wicked Witch is a big part of the second half and a driving force as an antagonist, but the world of Oz is not. It's a place that you will see and we'll spend a little bit of time there, but it's not a everybody-gets-on-a-ship-and-goes-there kind of thing.

The Tomorrow People

Executive producer Phil Klemmer previewed the journey Stephen and Jedikiah will be taking throughout the rest of the season:

Moving forward to the end of the season, we've sort of established that Stephen finding his father is going to be the salvation for his family and the salvation for The Tomorrow People. And the closer he gets to realizing his season-long dream, the more Stephen begins to realize that this is an impossibility, and the reason that his father was killed by his uncle was kind of a legitimate one. And we'll sort of gradually realize how complicated and tortured Jedekiah really is. By the time we reach the end of the season, we'll come to believe that putting a bullet in his heart was probably the best thing that John could ever have done for his surrogate father. And by the time we realize that, it will unfortunately be too late for Stephen, who finds himself in the same boat in real time. And whether father and son are physically brought together, they're certainly brought together in the way that Stephen finds himself basically facing the same impossible situation that forced his dad to an early, chilly grave.

He gave further details on how this family will unravel and spoke about Marla's powers and her feelings:

The interesting thing about Marla is you get to see she hasn't made peace with her powers. And she certainly hasn't made peace with her absentee husband, and she hasn't made peace with the fact that her son is determined to put himself on the front lines. So the promise of the reunion for the Jameson family, which seemed so simple in the pilot — the idea of 'if I just get my dad back, The Tomorrow People will be saved and my family will be reunited' — it's a bit of a mirage. The closer Stephen gets to it, the farther it seems to slip away, and the more dangerous and the more complicated that future proves.

Almost Human

Lili Taylor said she hopes that season 2 continues to make use of the whole ensemble, saying:

I would definitely want to have all the supporting characters, because it's those supporting characters that fill out the whole canvas, you know? Those relationships that [make] people tune in each week.-
